HTM conducts scientific missions as part of special projects. Thanks to its fleet and specially trained crews, HTM can undertake a wide range of scientific services. To expand its use in other research areas in the future, projects such as survey flights for cartographic applications or flights for aerial surveillance are possible.

 

Water sampling — support for research project

For the benefit of the environment, HTM cooperates with a renowned German marine research institute, to name just one example. HTM takes care of the regular sampling of seawater at defined points from the North Sea and Elbe estuary. For this purpose, water samples are taken with the winch and a bucket at precisely defined times. In addition to the low hover flight over the water, a particular challenge lies in the exact adherence to the sampling coordinates as well as the time calculated in advance in order to catch the ideal tidal phase. This is the only way to ensure successful water sampling and protect the helicopter's sensitive structure from the corrosive salt water. Here, HTM benefits from many years of sea flying experience.
