HTM in action during fire-fighting operation in the Lattengebirge

09. Aug 2023

Fire fighting operation for the HESLO crew of HTM - Last Tuesday, the HTM pilot and flight assistants, who operate from Salzburg in the Berchtesgaden region during the season, were called out to a fire in the Lattengebirge near Ramsau.

A hiker noticed smoke in the steep terrain at an altitude of around 1,600 metres and reported it. A lightning strike in a forest area on the slope had caused the fire. Immediately after the alarm was raised, the HTM crew equipped the AS350 helicopter with special wildfire equipment.

In the press release, the Bavarian Red Cross speaks of a "complex fire-fighting operation due to the terrain", as the fire and embers were located in exposed terrain. The requested police helicopters brought the other personnel to the scene with the help of the rescue winch.

HTM operated with a 30 metre rope and an 800 litre extinguishing container for helicopters so that the fire could be brought under control quickly and efficiently.

A total of around 50 firefighters from Ramsau, Berchtesgaden and Bad Reichenhall and 23 mountain rescuers from Ramsau, Altötting and Traunstein as well as the police helicopter squadron of the Bavarian state police were involved. We would like to thank all those involved for the smooth running of the operation.
